Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has expressed his unwavering belief that Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) has what it takes to become the new House speaker. In an interview with Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” McCarthy stated, “I think Jim Jordan can get there. I did walk in with more support during this time, but I believe at the end of the day, Jim can get there.”
McCarthy emphasized his commitment to helping Jordan secure the position, saying, “I’m doing everything I can to help him be able to become speaker.”

After being removed as House speaker on Oct. 3, McCarthy faced a 216–210 vote to oust him from the post. Eight Republicans joined all Democrats in voting against him. The motion to remove McCarthy was initiated by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), a member of a hardline conservative GOP faction.
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) initially defeated Rep. Jim Jordan in the race for the speakership. However, Scalise withdrew his candidacy after failing to secure enough support.

“The only place that we had failures was when Kevin McCarthy was left to his own means to negotiate large spending legislation,” Rosendale said.
When asked about a consensus candidate if Jordan fails to secure enough votes, McCarthy dismissed Rep. Kevin Hern (R-Okla.) and Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.) as inadequate options. He reiterated his belief in Jordan’s ability to gather the necessary support.
On Saturday, Hern announced his nomination of Jordan for the speakership, emphasizing the need to unite the party and work for the American people.
Mr. Johnson also expressed his support for Jordan, stating that he would not run for speaker and would defer to his close friend and colleague.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) announced that “informal conversations” regarding a bipartisan governing coalition were underway amid the House speaker turmoil. Jeffries expressed the readiness of Democrats to enter into such a coalition, stating, “Extreme MAGA Republicans have paralyzed Congress. We need to break the mold and form a bipartisan unity coalition.”
Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) revealed that some Republicans are considering a deal with Jeffries to elect a Speaker. Massie emphasized the importance of Republicans maintaining control of the House and urged support for Jordan as Speaker.
Other House Republicans are also rallying behind Jordan, recognizing the pivotal moment and the need for a strong Speaker to advance their agenda.
