Max Miller says he will not resign amid domestic violence allegations
Rep. Max Miller (R-OH) has declared he will not resign amidst allegations of domestic violence made by his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, which have become a focal point in his reelection campaign. Miller cited resilience in facing adversity, comparing himself to President Trump’s endurance during similar allegations, adn emphasized his dedication to representing his community. Despite intense scrutiny and a public legal dispute with Moreno, which includes serious accusations such as physical abuse and endangerment, Miller denies the allegations. He reports strong fundraising and support from GOP colleagues, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, and has called for an internal House Ethics Commitee examination into himself to clear his name. The race is considered competitive, with Democrats seeing an prospect to challenge Miller with candidate brian Poindexter. Meanwhile, Moreno has filed a restraining order against Miller. The controversy has prompted Miller to proactively pursue an ethics review, and he maintains he has nothing to hide.

“In 2016, when President Donald J. Trump faced the most extreme allegations in the world that hit him day after day after day, and people in the media, very much like yourself and others, said that he would have no shot at winning that he should not be the president of the United States, but guess what, he stayed in and he was resilient,” Miller said. “And what the American people can see is that they can see that somebody is fighting who is resilient, and that is a quality that the American people cherish. And so, for no second am I going to sit here and continue to be debased by false and baseless allegations, and be pushed out of a seat I have worked so hard to represent and done a terrific job for our community.”

Miller, who is running for reelection, has come under intense scrutiny as a bitter and public legal battle with Emily Moreno has played out. The New York Times detailed that she alleged that Miller “scalded her chest and stomach by throwing hot water from a skillet at her body; held a gun to her head; pushed her against a wall and hit her head; and fractured their daughter’s collarbone and bruised her shoulder.” Miller has denied the allegations.
“My numbers in fundraising are strong,” Miller said in an interview on CNN. “You know, Speaker Mike Johnson, everyone else, they’re standing behind me. No one has told me to get off the ballot, and that’s because they know I can win this seat.”
Democrats have viewed the race as increasingly competitive amid the scandal surrounding Miller. Democrats could use the next few weeks to boost their candidate, union ironworker Brian Poindexter, as the nonpartisan Cook Political Report has the seat labeled “likely Republican.”
Miller took the unusual step of calling for a House Ethics Committee investigation into himself on Tuesday as pressure has mounted on the future of his political career.

“In light of all the renewed interest in my family affairs I am going to file my own paperwork for an ethics investigation into myself to clear my name from these horrific attacks on myself and family,” Miller wrote in a post on X on Tuesday. “I have absolutely nothing to hide.”
