Maui Residents Slam President Biden for Lack of Concern Following Devastating Fires
Maui residents are expressing their frustration with President Joe Biden over his apparent lack of concern for the island in the aftermath of the devastating fires that have claimed at least 111 lives.
One resident of Lahaina, a historic town that was reduced to ash by the fires, questioned why the Biden administration is sending billions of dollars to Ukraine while remaining mostly silent on the tragedy in Maui. She urged Biden to prioritize taking care of their own territory before sending funds elsewhere.

After initially stating that he had “no comment” on the wildfires while lounging on the beach, President Biden and the first lady have now announced their visit to the island on Monday. The Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator has also ordered a comprehensive approach to addressing the fires.
The death toll from the wildfires has reached 111, including children, and there are still over 1,000 people missing. The governor has expressed concern that only 40% of the burn area has been searched. Video footage suggests that some fires may have started from downed power lines.
