Matt Gaetz reveals reason he nominated Trump for House speaker

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R – FL) explained why he nominated Donald Trump for House Speaker during the January prolonged vote, which lasted 15 votes.

According to the fiery Florida congressman, Jeremy Herrell (host of the online show), Live from America TVHe nominated the former president to stop Trump calling him Trump.

“President Trump found that to be very interesting, and I wanted a way to stop him from calling me,” When asked about the move, Gaetz replied.

Gaetz was the only one to vote for Trump as House speaker in rounds seven and eight. He did not vote in the final round for Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R.CA), but he voted instead for Jim Jordan and Reps. Byron Donalds. Gaetz and other voters were the last round of voting. “never-Kevin” Members of Congress vote “present,” McCarthy was elected as speaker.

Trump had already endorsed McCarthy for speaker, and was calling Congress to convince them to vote for him. Nearly all the “never-Kevin” Trump was closely aligned with the holdouts.

McCarthy eventually credited Trump with his victory in the speaker’s vote and said that it was not fair to question his influence over the GOP.

“I do want to especially thank President Trump,” McCarthy spoke out after the vote. “I don’t think anybody should doubt his influence.”

McCarthy was proud of Gaetz’s ability to get the remaining holdouts to vote for him, despite tension during the extended speaker voting.

“It became a tie and … Matt really wanted to get everybody there. Through all of this, people’s emotions go up and down. At the end of the night, Matt got everybody there to the point that nobody voted against it. It actually helped unite,” McCarthy spoke.

Gaetz, who was a vocal critic of McCarthy during his speaker vote saga said that he was satisfied with McCarthy’s tenure a month after voting.
