Matt Damon Reveals the “Hell” of Kissing Scarlett Johansson
In a recent interview with LADbible TV, Matt Damon opened up about his experience locking lips with actress Scarlett Johansson on the set of their 2011 movie “We Bought a Zoo.” And according to Damon, it was nothing short of ”hell.”
Damon, who is now 52 years old, was asked during the interview whether a person should be told if they have bad breath. The “Air” star shared that he could forgive a co-star for having halitosis, but a smelly sandwich was pushing it.

Describing the infamous kiss with Johansson, Damon said, “I had to kiss Scarlett Johansson — can you imagine how horrible that was for me? It was hell!”
He went on to explain that they had filmed a shot before lunch, which included a kiss. Both Damon and Johansson thought the kissing scene was over, so they went to have lunch. However, Johansson made the unfortunate choice of eating an onion sandwich.
After lunch, the director Cameron Crowe set up the camera for a tight shot of the kiss. When Johansson realized this, she exclaimed, “Ah sh*t! I literally just had an onion sandwich!”
Damon couldn’t help but make fun of Johansson for her onion breath throughout the rest of the shoot. However, he later admitted that he didn’t actually smell her breath because, in his eyes, her breath always smells like roses.
The interview also took a playful turn when the topic of British food came up. Damon jokingly mocked his co-star Emily Blunt, who is British, by saying that British food is known for being horrible. Blunt retaliated by poking fun at classic American food like cheeseburgers and nuggets. Damon reminded her that America is a melting pot of cuisines from around the world, not just “fried” food.
It seems that Damon and Blunt had a great time sharing their on-set experiences and engaging in friendly banter during the interview.
