The Governor’s office has announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) request for the fires. This means that the state will be eligible to receive reimbursement from the federal government for up to 75% of the costs associated with combating the fires.

Abbott emphasized the ongoing threat, stating, “According to the Texas A&M Forest Service, the abundance of dry, freeze-cured grasses will continue to fuel the fire’s spread today. As we approach the weekend, the fire conditions will become hotter and drier, increasing the potential for further wildfire activity across the Texas Panhandle. Parts of South Texas and East Texas are also facing heightened wildfire risks due to active burns. Additionally, the Texas A&M Forest Service has raised the Wildland Fire Preparedness Level to Level 3 today, anticipating an escalation in current and future wildfire activity over the next few days.”
