Massive Earthquake Hits Afghanistan, Tremors Felt In India, Pakistan, And China

A 6.8-magnitude earthquake hit the Hindu Kush area in Afghanistan, close to the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border, on Tuesday. The quake, which occurred at 10:17 pm local time, was felt as far away as New Delhi, India’s capital. The German Research Center for Geoscience (GFZ) provided this information in a preliminary report. The quake had a depth of 114 miles.

Initial reports indicate that the earthquake was felt in Afghanistan’s capital, Kabul, as well as several Pakistani cities, including Islamabad and Lahore. The earthquake also shook Turkmenistan, India, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, China, Afghanistan, and Kyrgyzstan, according to Al Jazeera. There have been no reports of casualties.

This is the second earthquake to hit the region in recent months. On January 5th, a magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck a depth of 117 miles in the same area, causing tremors in New Delhi, Kabul, and Islamabad.
