Massie goes on fishing trip with MTG after losing Kentucky primary election
Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) posted a video on X showing himself deep-sea fishing with former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, captioned “America First Pacific Summit Retreat.” The post comes after Massie lost his reelection bid in Kentucky’s 4th District to Trump-endorsed challenger Ed Gallrein, ending his 14-year tenure.
The fishing outing also highlights an unusual political connection between Massie and Greene, who have both increasingly clashed with President Donald Trump despite previously being seen as aligned with his movement. Greene supported Massie during the primary and defended him after Trump intensified attacks, while Massie had drawn Trump’s ire for voting against the One big Stunning Bill Act, working with Democrats to push for Epstein file disclosures, and criticizing the U.S. war against Iran. Likewise, Greene’s relationship with Trump broke down after she criticized parts of his foreign policy agenda and backed efforts for additional Epstein-related disclosures; she later resigned from Congress.
With Congress currently out of session, the moment underscores how GOP politics-and the roles of figures like Trump-remain in flux heading into an uncertain midterm cycle. massie has also filed to run in 2028, though he has not yet decided which office he will seek.
Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) appeared to swap politics for deep-sea fishing this week, posting a video of himself reeling in a sailfish alongside former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene after losing Kentucky‘s Republican primary to a candidate backed by President Donald Trump.
Massie posted the video on X Wednesday with the caption “America First Pacific Summit Retreat,” showing himself aboard a fishing charter with Greene while reeling in a large sailfish in what appeared to be a tropical destination.

The post follows Massie losing his bid for reelection in Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District to Trump-endorsed Ed Gallrein, ending the libertarian-leaning Republican’s 14-year tenure in Congress.
The outing underscored the unlikely political alliance that emerged between Massie and Greene in recent months as both increasingly found themselves at odds with Trump despite once being viewed as close allies of the president’s political movement.
Greene, who resigned from Congress earlier this year, publicly supported Massie during his bruising primary and defended him after Trump escalated attacks on the Kentucky Republican.
Massie drew Trump’s ire after voting against the One Big Beautiful Bill Act last year, his willingness to work with Democrats to force the Justice Department to release the Epstein files, as well as his criticism of the U.S. war against Iran. Trump eventually endorsed Gallrein and campaigned aggressively for Massie’s seat.
Greene’s relationship with Trump also fractured over the past year after she criticized parts of the administration’s foreign policy agenda and aligned herself with efforts to force additional disclosures related to Jeffrey Epstein. Trump publicly rebuked Greene and threatened to back a primary challenger against her before she later resigned from Congress.
The pair’s fishing trip comes as Congress is out of session and Republicans look toward a politically uncertain midterm cycle shaped in part by Trump’s efforts to consolidate influence inside the GOP.
MASSIE FILES FOR 2028 BUT UNSURE ABOUT WHICH ‘OFFICE TO SEEK’
Massie has already filed to run for his congressional seat in 2028, but left the door open for other offices. He said he filed because it allows him to “raise funds to continue my political operations supporting my position as a current office holder and as a potential candidate for federal office.”
Greene, meanwhile, has continued appearing in conservative media and advocating what she calls a more populist “America First” movement independent of party leadership.
