Massie campaign sends misleading text implying Trump endorsement

Rep. Thomas Massie’s campaign sent a text to Kentucky voters on primary day implying President Donald Trump supported Massie’s opponent, even though Trump’s reported 2022 endorsement for Massie said the opposite. The message highlighted Trump’s prior endorsement and was described as misleading by the Washington Examiner, which said the campaign paid for the text.

Massie is seeking to keep his seat, but the article notes Trump is backing Ed Gallrein to unseat him. It adds that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stumped for Gallrein at a rally in Massie’s district, and that polls show Gallrein with a slight, tight lead that has shifted over time following trump’s endorsement. The piece also mentions primary polling closes at 6 p.m. with voters allowed to vote if they are still in line.

Rep. Thomas Massie’s (R-KY) campaign sent a misleading text to Kentucky voters on Tuesday, the day of his primary, that implied President Donald Trump supports the incumbent when that is clearly not the case.

The text featured Trump’s 2022 endorsement of Massie, who has frequently opposed the president’s agenda in Congress.

“Congressman Thomas Massie is a Conservative Warrior for Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District!” Trump said in part at the time. “Strong on the Border and our Military and Vets, Thomas Massie has my Complete and Total Endorsement!”

Trump is backing former Navy SEAL officer Ed Gallrein to unseat Massie in the midterm elections this year.

The text ended with a statement that Massie’s campaign paid for the message on primary day, according to Washington Examiner reporter Salena Zito.

The Washington Examiner contacted Massie’s campaign for comment to clear up the confusion.

The seven-term congressman is trying to hold on to his seat for at least another two years amid attacks from Trump.

Kentucky’s Republican primary comes one day after War Secretary Pete Hegseth stumped for Gallrein at a campaign rally in Massie’s congressional district.

MASSIE MAKES RARE FOX NEWS APPEARANCE ON FINAL DAY OF KENTUCKY PRIMARY

In the primary race, polling locations close at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Voters who are still in line at that time will be allowed to cast their ballots.

Recent polls show Gallrein with a slight lead, but the margin between them is too close to call. Earlier surveys had Massie in the lead, but that lead narrowed after Trump endorsed Gallrein earlier this year.
