Oregon Gov. Kate Brown announced masks would now be required in all state schools and agency buildings. On Friday, the Democrat announced the reinstatement of statewide COVID restrictions and mask requirements.

This came nearly one month after Brown lifted all restrictions. Brown cited the rise in Delta variant infections by saying the move was important for the safety of young children who have not been eligible for vaccinations yet.

The Democrat governor went on to explain, “we are, however, going to be requiring masks for K-12 schools starting in the fall.”

The newly reinstated mask mandate went into effect in schools and state agency buildings immediately. In addition, the Oregon Health Authority updated its guidance this week, which recommended everyone to wear a mask while indoors.

Brown went on to say her priority is to keep kids in person in the classroom five days a week.
