Mariah Carey’s Monster Holiday Hit ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ Estimated To Bring Singer An Insane Amount Every Year

Mariah Carey’s monster holiday hit “All I Want For Christmas Is You” is estimated to bring in an insane amount for the singer every year, earning more than $1.55 million in 2021 alone.

The 52-year-old singer’s 1994 Christmas song has truly become a classic along with the likes of Nat King Cole’s “The Christmas Song” and Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas.” And it’s been a winner not just for the artist, but for her cowriter, Walter Afanasieff, and her label Sony Music, Billboard magazine reported.

Last year, the master recording of Carey’s version generated domestically 1.747 million song consumption units, according to Luminate, which Billboard estimates as making $1.36 million for the singer and her label.

With the song being part of five Christmas albums from Carey, physical sales of those brought in another $378,000 in 2021, the outlet noted.

And those earnings are just for the United States. When the outlet looked at the hundreds of millions of more streams and the tens of thousands of downloads worldwide, the Carey master recording version of her hit song, with publishing royalties, earned another $6.16 million for those connected to the holiday hit.

Of that $6 million plus, Carey is estimated to have taken home $1.55 million with her label collecting $2.95 million, the outlet noted.

Carey’s hit song shows no signs of slowing down either after the tune topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart for the first time in 2019, 2020, 2021, and now again in 2022, the outlet noted.

During the singer’s recent appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” the pop singer said they make “one sixteenth of a penny on every stream,” but reiterated, “We are thankful for all of it.”

Already this year, Billboard reported that Carey’s Christmas song has 41.4 million streams (up 14%), sold 11,000 downloads (up 86%), and has 33.1 million radio airplay audience impressions (up 11%) in the U.S. for the week of December 9-15 alone, according to Luminate. That could mean 2022 will be the best year yet for the song Carey has said took her about 15 minutes to write.
