A driver in Minnesota who reportedly led police recently on a high-speed chase and fired at them with a handgun is allegedly an illegal immigrant who has been deported at least seven times in the recent past.

The suspect, Pablo Nava Jaimes, reportedly fired 10 shots at police in the alcohol-fueled getaway attempt –  from St. Paul to nearby White Bear Lake.

The suspect had allegedly consumed eight or nine beers at a cookout prior to the June 5 incident.

Jaimes and his wife were arrested during the incident. A federal government spokesman says Jaimes was in the country illegally and had already been deported multiple times.

“Pablo Nava-Jaimes, 31, is a citizen of Mexico and unlawfully present in the United States. Nava-Jaimes illegally entered the United States at an unknown date and at an unknown location,” the Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesperson told Alpha News. “United States Border Patrol encountered and voluntarily removed Nava-Jaimes from the U.S. on at least seven occasions between 2008 and 2010.”

Jaimes was reportedly arrested 2021 at least twice, but in neither case was he deported, Alpha News also reported.

The suspect, meanwhile, appeared in court earlier this month on charges stemming from the police chase and had his bail lowered from $5 million to $100,000.
