Major Grocery Chain Issues Recall Over Salmonella Threat
Whole Foods, owned by amazon, announced a recall of over 40 products including salsas, guacamole, pico de gallo, and other prepared foods due to potential Salmonella contamination. The affected items, which contain jalapenos sourced from Coast Citrus Distributors in Mexico, were sold across 12 states in the South and Midwest, including Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and others, with best-by dates from August 7 to August 16. Even though no illnesses have been reported yet,Salmonella poses serious health risks,especially to vulnerable populations. Customers are advised not to consume the recalled products and to discard them or return receipts for refunds. The outbreak is linked to a broader Salmonella issue associated with jalapenos, which has sickened 345 people and hospitalized 36 across 27 states.
Whole Foods announced a recall of salsas, guacamole, pico de gallo, and other products due to the possibility of Salmonella contamination.
The grocery chain, which is owned by Amazon, will pull products that contain jalapenos sourced from Coast Citrus Distributors, according to an Aug. 12 release from the Food and Drug Administration.
A grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, which supplies to Coast Citrus Distributors was identified as the potential source of the Salmonella outbreak.
Over 40 products containing fresh jalapenos are being recalled by Whole Foods amid ongoing concerns over a multistate salmonella outbreak. The recalled items, including dips, salsa, guacamole and meat products, have Best By dates ranging from Aug. 7 through Aug. 16.

The food recall impacts twelve states across the South and Midwest — Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Kentucky, and Ohio.
The impacted products were sold both online and in the produce and prepared foods departments.
They have Best By and Best Before dates between Aug. 7 and Aug. 16.
Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause serious or even fatal infections in children, elderly people, or those with weakened immune systems — as well as diarrhea and fever in healthy people.

There have not yet been any illnesses reported in relation to the Whole Foods recall.
The specific recalled products include mild and spicy guacamole dips; pico de gallo, pomegranate, and roasted corn guacamole dip; salsa with heirloom tomatoes; and mango pineapple salsa.
“Customers who purchased any of the products listed should not consume them,” the FDA notice said.
“Please discard the product or bring a valid receipt to any Whole Foods Market store for a full refund.”
