“In the face of great tragedy and difficulty, it is a hallmark of Maine people to come together to love and support one another,” Mills expressed on the internet resource Healing Together. “To that end, I know many people right now are asking, ‘How can I help?’ I encourage Maine people to use and share our ‘Healing Together’ website as a resource to support the families of the victims and the greater Lewiston community as we begin the long and difficult process of healing.”

Maine officials have announced a significant development in the case. The suspect, Robert Card, wanted in connection with the shooting, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His body was discovered by state police in a recycling trailer in Lisbon on Friday evening.
“Like many people, I’m breathing a sigh of relief tonight, knowing that Robert Card is no longer a threat to anyone,” Mills shared during a press conference. She also confirmed that she had spoken with President Joe Biden and several Maine lawmakers to verify Card’s demise.
The Mills Administration has launched a comprehensive website offering various resources to aid in the community’s recovery. The page provides links to multiple donation platforms, including the Central Maine Medical Center Compassionate Care Fund, which assists with patient care expenses. The Lewiston-Auburn Area Response Fund, established by the Maine Community Foundation, aims to address both immediate and emerging needs related to the shooting. Additionally, the City of Lewiston has created the OneLewiston donation portal and is accepting cash donations at various Androscoggin Bank locations.

How is Gov. Mills addressing the mental health needs of the community in the aftermath of the tragedy?
Come together and support one another,” said Gov. Mills. “We must ensure that those affected by this senseless act of violence have the help they need to heal and recover. These online resources will provide information, support, and guidance to those who are directly impacted by the shootings, as well as to the larger community.”
The online resources include a dedicated website that offers information about counseling services, support groups, and other resources available to those affected by the shootings. It also provides information on how to recognize the signs of trauma and how to cope with grief and loss. Additionally, the website offers resources for parents and caregivers to help children and teens process their emotions and provide them with a safe space to express themselves.
Gov. Mills emphasized the importance of addressing the mental health needs of the community in the aftermath of such a traumatic event. “The impact of this tragedy extends beyond the physical injuries. We must acknowledge and address the emotional and psychological toll it has taken on the survivors, their families, and the entire community,” she said.
In addition to the online resources, Gov. Mills has also allocated funding to increase access to mental health services in the area. This includes providing additional funding for mental health professionals, as well as expanding existing mental health programs to meet the increased demand.
The initiative has been met with widespread support from the community and various organizations. The Maine Medical Center, for example, has offered its services to assist with the counseling and treatment of those affected by the shootings. Additionally, several local organizations have volunteered to host support groups and provide resources to the families impacted by the tragedy.
“We are grateful for the outpouring of support from the community and organizations who want to help in any way they can. This tragedy has deeply affected us all, and it is heartening to see the compassion and solidarity that Maine people have shown,” said Gov. Mills.
The resources provided by the initiative are aimed at helping individuals and families affected by the shootings navigate the often overwhelming and complex process of recovering and rebuilding their lives. They also seek to raise awareness about the importance of mental health and to reduce the stigma associated with seeking help.
While the tragic event has left an indelible mark on the community, Gov. Mills and the state of Maine are committed to providing support and resources to help the affected families heal and rebuild. Through the online resources and increased access to mental health services, they aim to ensure that nobody suffers alone and that everyone impacted receives the help they need.
As the community faces the difficult task of healing and rebuilding, the commitment to support the affected families remains unwavering. Gov. Mills and the state of Maine are dedicated to providing the necessary resources and assistance to bring solace and strength to the community as they navigate this painful journey.
