Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) is unsure of why Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is pushing forward a doomed motion to vacate against House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA).

Mace, who was one of the eight Republicans who voted to oust former Speaker Kevin McCarthy from the speakership in October, said Monday on Newsmax’s Wake Up America that the House GOP should be focused on unity and questioned why Greene was going forward.

“Now is the time to bring the party together. We’ve been through a lot of challenges over the last six months, and we’ve overcome those challenges, and we need to unite together so that we can win the White House. We need to help Donald Trump win the White House,” Mace said. “We need to help Mike Johnson keep the majority, and then, we need to flip the Senate because that is the only way we can turn around the divisiveness of the Left, the divisiveness of the Democrat Party, the divisiveness of Joe Biden.

Greene is expected to force a vote on the motion to vacate this week, but most Republicans, along with House Democratic leadership, have vowed to table the motion to vacate.

“She’s going to lose. I don’t know why she’s doing this because the votes aren’t there,” Mace said. “She’s going to lose the motion to vacate, and I don’t know why she’s doing it.”

Mace pushed for a unified front for Republicans to present as a pitch for keeping (and expanding) the House majority in November.

“I want us to unite the party and show the American people that we can lead. And how we’re going to lead in shutting down the border, how we’re going to stop the invasion, how we’re going to stem the tide of inflation and massive spending that’s happened over the past years and decades and what we’re going to do to make sure that peoples’ lives are more affordable, more prosperous, and more successful,” Mace said. “That’s the message that we need to focus on as a party.”
