Sen. Lindsey Graham Booed During Trump’s Victory Speech
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) faced a mixed reception during former President Donald Trump’s victory speech after winning the South Carolina Republican primary on Saturday night. Graham, who has been booed at previous Trump events in his home state, is considered one of the more centrist Republicans supported by the former president.
When Trump introduced Graham at the speech, he acknowledged their ideological differences, stating that Graham is his go-to person when he needs help from the left. This comment elicited a combination of cheers and boos from the crowd.
“He doesn’t do too much television. He happens to be a little bit further left than some of the people on this stage. But I always say when I’m in trouble on the left, I call up Lindsey Graham, and he straightens it out so fast.”
Despite the initial negative response, Trump defended Graham and invited him to speak, expressing his admiration for the senator.
“I love him, he’s a good man. Come up here, Lindsey,” Trump said.
Graham took the microphone and used the opportunity to praise Trump and offer reassurance to the country.
“America, the nightmare you are facing is just about over. Help is on the way. This is the most qualified man to be president of the United States. And let it be said that South Carolina created the biggest political comeback in American history,” Graham declared.
Trump emerged as the clear winner in the GOP presidential primary in South Carolina, defeating former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley by a significant margin of nearly 20%. Despite her loss, Haley has vowed to continue her campaign.
