Sen. Lindsey Graham Faces Backlash Over Proposal That Could Lead to World War III

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) is facing criticism from fellow Republicans and conservatives over a plan that they argue could potentially escalate tensions with Russia and result in World War III.

Graham took to Twitter to announce his intention to work with both Republicans and Democrats in the Senate to pass a resolution urging the admission of Ukraine into NATO. He believes that creating security guarantees through NATO membership will deter aggressor nations from starting wars and promote peace.

“Ukrainian NATO membership is crucial for the future security of Europe and the world,” Graham emphasized. “I am confident that there is an overwhelming majority of Senators supporting this proposition.”

However, not all Republicans are on board with Graham’s proposal. Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) strongly rejected the idea, stating, “Absolutely not. This is exactly wrong — as usual — and could very well lead us to war with Russia, something no one should want.”

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) responded to Graham’s proposal by highlighting the negative consequences of expanding NATO. He argued that the expansion of NATO, a Cold War relic, contributed to the rise of Putin and ultimately led to the invasion of Ukraine.

“Expanding NATO further is not in the interests of US citizens,” Massie added.

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) expressed concerns about Graham’s proposal, suggesting that it could result in American troops being deployed to Ukraine.

“The American people will not stand by and allow our troops to go die in someone else’s war,” Boebert asserted.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) strongly criticized Graham’s plan, calling it “madness.” She urged everyone in Washington to prioritize peace and put an end to the war in Ukraine, emphasizing that the conflict is destabilizing Europe and impacting global economies.

Republican political strategist Ryan Girdusky took to Twitter to express his concerns, stating, “Lindsey Graham is out here trying to start World War 3, and Donald Trump will still continue to campaign with him.”

Professor Max Abrahms also voiced his skepticism about Ukraine’s NATO membership, tweeting, “There are two kinds of Americans who push for Ukraine in NATO. Those who don’t know how to keep Americans safe and those who secretly want war with Russia.”
