AOC criticizes James Comer after heated regulation hearing: ‘Survival of the fittest’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Slams House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer

During a recent House Oversight hearing on pilot regulations, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) didn’t hold back in expressing her concerns. She criticized some Republicans for their efforts to reduce the required training hours for pilots, claiming it was a misguided solution to the pilot shortage.

The tension between Ocasio-Cortez and Chairman Comer (R-KY) quickly escalated, and the exchange caught the attention of many. Ocasio-Cortez took to Twitter to share her thoughts on the encounter, making it clear that she believed she had come out on top.

“What’s unique about hearings is that it’s just you, a witness, and 5 unfiltered minutes. You either sink or swim on your own effort. Fox News & tech billionaires can’t save you here. If you’re not on point, there’s nowhere to hide. and that’s where I wait,”

Ocasio-Cortez’s tweet was accompanied by an emoji wearing sunglasses, emphasizing her confidence in her performance.

The interaction that sparked this response occurred when Ocasio-Cortez initially voiced her opposition to the proposed policy of reducing pilot training hours. Chairman Comer interrupted her, leading to a back-and-forth exchange.

“I’m amused that the gentlelady is concerned about raising the age regulation that limits the age for pilots when there’s a shortage of pilots, but they’re OK with a president of the United States who’s more than 20 years older than the minimum age,” Comer stated.

Ocasio-Cortez quickly interjected, clarifying that her concern was not about age but rather the number of training hours required.

“Mr. Chairman, since you’re referring to me, it’s not age. It’s training-hour time — the number of hours that an individual’s training, not the age,” she asserted.

Chairman Comer attempted to counter her argument by mentioning that age is also a factor in the regulations.

Ocasio-Cortez’s taunt on Twitter could potentially escalate tensions between the two lawmakers, leading to further attempts to outdo each other during future hearings.
