Light Therapy May Boost Energy in People Living With MS

Multiple sclerosis patients (MSThey have trouble generating the energy necessary to live a normal existence. Extreme fatigue is often the most severe.

Now, here’s a new study It has been suggested that light therapy might help MS patients regain their lives.

MS is an autoimmune condition that results in the body attacking the insulation around nerves. This causes fatigue, numbness and mood problems.

Patients with MS reported feeling less tired after sitting in front of a lightbox for 30 minutes each day for two weeks. They also reported feeling more energetic and able to complete their day.

Light therapy has been shown to increase alertness, concentration, wakefulness, and overall productivity during the day, according to previous research. It’s also linked to the increased availability of serotonin and noradrenaline, two neurotransmitters responsible for regulating mood and motivation.

Although the study only involved 26 people, it showed that light therapy was more effective when done with daylight lamps at 10,000 lux (the recommended brightness for light therapy).

Half of the 26 participants sat before the 10,000-lux daylight lamp and the other half in front a lamp that emits dim red light.

Researchers found that the 10,000 lux lamp could boost mental and physical performance by 30 minutes per night after excluding any sleep disorders. The Fatigue Severity Scale was used to measure the changes.

Light therapy has no side effects and can be used to treat MS-related extreme fatigue. Although larger studies are required to confirm its effectiveness, light therapy appears to be safe for those who want to increase their energy levels.
