DC AG accused of using power to target conservatives, linked to dark-money giant.
Sentinel Action Fund accuses Washington Attorney General of targeting conservatives
The leader of the Sentinel Action Fund super PAC, Jessica Anderson, has accused Washington, D.C., Attorney General Brian Schwalb of “weaponizing” his authority to go after conservatives. This comes after the House GOP launched an investigation into Schwalb and his probe into the Federalist Society.
“AG Schwalb and his radical allies are weaponizing their power in an attempt to intimidate and silence their political opponents,” Anderson stated. “We need more fighters like Jim Jordan and James Comer who will stand up and protect free speech.”
House GOP investigates Schwalb’s handling of Federalist Society investigation
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan and House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer sent a letter to Schwalb, expressing their concerns about the Washington investigation into Leonard Leo, co-chairman of the Federalist Society legal group.
Schwalb initiated the investigation based on allegations that one of Leo’s nonprofit organizations had paid excessive compensation to one of his for-profit companies.
The GOP lawmakers raised two major concerns regarding Schwalb’s investigation. Firstly, they questioned his jurisdiction since Leo and his affiliates are based outside of Washington. Secondly, they raised concerns about the potential infringement of donor privacy rights.
Republicans have attempted to link Schwalb to the Arabella Advisors consulting firm, which oversees various left-wing groups. They claim that the Campaign for Accountability, which initially filed a complaint against Leo’s network, was an Arabella project until 2017.
Comer and Jordan accused Schwalb’s investigation of being politically motivated and lacking evidence. They also criticized Schwalb and his deputy for their association with the Venable law firm, which has represented groups within Arabella’s network.

The Campaign for Accountability has denied any relationship with Arabella and stated that its brief fiscal sponsorship by other Arabella projects is irrelevant to their work. However, tax documents obtained by Fox News reveal that the Arabella-managed New Venture Fund provided at least $2.2 million to the Campaign for Accountability after it separated from the network.
After facing backlash for targeting Leo’s network while seemingly ignoring Arabella and the Campaign for Accountability, Schwalb opened a similar investigation into Arabella Advisors. However, Leo’s allies have dismissed the investigation as “completely not serious,” according to the Washington Examiner.
Why does Jessica Anderson, leader of the Sentinel Action Fund, believe that Schwalb is “weaponizing” his authority against conservative voices and different political views?
T a letter on Wednesday to Attorney General Brian Schwalb, expressing concern over his handling of the investigation into the Federalist Society. The letter accuses Schwalb of engaging in a politically motivated attack on conservative organizations and individuals.
According to the letter, the investigation into the Federalist Society is seen by many as an attempt to stifle free speech and target conservative voices. The Federalist Society is a conservative legal organization that advocates for originalism and textualism in judicial interpretation. It has been a prominent supporter of conservative judicial nominees and has played a significant role in shaping the direction of the judiciary.
The Sentinel Action Fund, a super PAC dedicated to advancing conservative values, has become an outspoken critic of Schwalb’s investigation. Its leader, Jessica Anderson, believes that Schwalb is “weaponizing” his authority to silence conservative voices and intimidate those who hold different political views.
Anderson’s criticism of Schwalb is not without merit. Over the past several years, there has been a growing concern among conservatives that they are being unfairly targeted by government entities, including law enforcement agencies and regulatory bodies. This perception has led to calls for greater transparency and accountability in these institutions.
The House GOP’s investigation into Schwalb’s handling of the Federalist Society investigation is aimed at addressing these concerns. Jordan and Comer, both known for their staunch support of conservative causes, are leading the charge to ensure that the investigation is conducted fairly and without prejudice.
In the letter to Schwalb, Jordan and Comer request documents and communications related to the investigation, as well as an explanation of the basis for the probe. They want to ensure that the investigation is not politically motivated and that conservative organizations and individuals are not being unfairly targeted.
The case of the Federalist Society investigation highlights the need for a robust and impartial justice system that respects the rights and freedoms of all citizens, regardless of their political beliefs. It is important for government officials to exercise their authority responsibly and avoid any appearance of bias or political motivation.
The accusations made by the Sentinel Action Fund and the House GOP must be thoroughly investigated to determine the validity of their claims. If it is found that Schwalb has indeed targeted conservatives for political reasons, it would be a serious abuse of power that undermines the principles of fairness and justice that our legal system is built upon.
In a time when our society is becoming increasingly polarized, it is crucial to protect and uphold the principles of free speech and fair treatment for all individuals, regardless of their political affiliations. Only by doing so can we ensure that our democracy remains strong and that all voices are heard.
