Lee Zeldin Supporter Speaks Out After Being Attacked at Gov. Hochul Event

A supporter for Republican gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin who was attacked and choked at a rally for Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul has spoken out for the first time about the incident, in an interview with Fox News.

Angelica Torres was peacefully trying to exercise her First Ammendment rights at the event in New York City when an unidentified woman grabber her anti-Hochul sign and threw it aside. As she went to try to retrieve her sign, an unidentified man, bigger than her in stature, grabber her by the neck while New York City Councilmember Crystal Hudson grabber her by the arm. The entire incident was caught on camera.

“I was pretty much defenseless, outnumbered”, Torres told Fox News. “You know, we’re all very peaceful. And we were just there, just, you know exercising out First Ammendment. And we just wanted our voices to be heard.”

When asked to comment by Fox News, the New York City Police Department claimed that the man who grabbed Torres by the throat “was actually helping her”. There have been no arrests announced in connection with the incident.

“I felt like my voice was trying to be silenced”, Torres added, “You know, we’re supposed to have a middle ground where we can have agreements and have disagreements, but always be respectful.”

She went on further to lament the fact that “we can’t have debates without it getting violent. And I feel like they started to happen with Antifa. And unfortunately people keep ignoring it like this isn’t happening and not it’s just going to escalate.”

Zeldin took to Twitter to condemn the assult.

“I have always condemned political violence of any kind, and Kathy Hochul must do the same. Her continued silence on her supporter choking out a woman simply exercising her First Amendment rights makes her complicit in this attack.”

Hochul has not yet commented on the incident.

The New York governors race is has been mostly neck and neck between Zeldin and Hochul. A recent Trafalgar Group poll shows Zeldin with a narrow lead over the democratic incumbent .
