Lawmaker suggests renaming street near Chinese Embassy in memory of Tiananmen Square victims.

EXCLUSIVE — Freshman Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) Introduces Bill to Rename Street in Front of Chinese Embassy

Freshman Representative Andy Ogles (R-TN) has taken a bold step to honor the victims of the Tiananmen Square Massacre. He introduced a bill to rename the street in front of the Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C. to “1 Tiananmen Square Memorial Boulevard”. This move serves as a powerful reminder of the tragic events that unfolded 34 years ago.

A Tragic Day in History

On June 4, 1989, the Chinese government responded to protesters demanding freedom of speech, less censorship, and political freedom with a brutal crackdown. The protests, which began on April 15, ended in a massacre that claimed the lives of an estimated 10,000 civilians. It was a dark chapter in history that should never be forgotten.

Representative Ogles passionately spoke out against the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), calling them immoral and genocidal. He emphasized the importance of condemning their human rights abuses, especially in light of the ongoing cultural genocide of Uyghur Muslims, Tibetans, and Southern Mongolians.

A Symbolic Gesture

In honor of the victims lost on that tragic day, Representative Ogles introduced legislation to rename the street outside the Embassy of China in Washington, DC. The proposed name, “1 Tiananmen Square Memorial Boulevard,” would serve as a powerful symbol of remembrance and a reminder of the atrocities committed by the CCP.

The current name of the street is “3505 International Place NW,” but with the support of 16 co-sponsors, including Chief Deputy Whip Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA), Rep. Stephanie Bice (R-OK), and Rep. Chris Smith, the chairman of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China, there is hope for the bill’s success.

Representative Bice expressed her support for the renaming, stating that it serves as a way to remember the tragic event and shed light on China’s long record of human rights abuses.

A Strong Stance Against the Chinese Communist Party

Since gaining control of the House, Republicans have been closely scrutinizing the Chinese Communist Party. They have delved into various aspects, including their military, intelligence gathering, and the origins of COVID-19. The creation of the bipartisan Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party further demonstrates their commitment to defending the American people, economy, and values against this threat.

It is crucial for America to unequivocally condemn the CCP’s reign of terror and stand up for human rights. By renaming the street in front of the Chinese Embassy, we send a powerful message that we will not forget the victims of the Tiananmen Square Massacre and that we will continue to fight for justice.
