Latest Evidence Lockdowns Were A Disaster: Child Shootings Skyrocketed In Four Liberal Cities

New data published in the Journal of the American Medical Association reveals a significant increase in fatal and non-fatal gun assaults among minors across four major liberal cities in the United States from March 2020 to December 2021. The data, analyzed by researchers at Boston University, showed that children in Philadelphia faced the highest increase in gun violence, with fatal and non-fatal gun assaults increasing from 30 per 100,000 to about 62 per 100,000 during the pandemic. Rates in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles also went up. The study also found that Black children were particularly affected, with data showing they were 100 times more likely than white children to be shot during this period.

This data adds to the various concerns that surfaced regarding the consequences of the pandemic on children, which includes a Stanford University study showing physical and mental health problems caused by lockdowns. The study found that teenagers’ brains were physically altered and “aged” during the pandemic. Meanwhile, reports suggest that children in red states, where they had less time away from in-person instruction, showed better academic progress than their blue state counterparts, where online schooling was adopted. The study raises the question of whether the lockdowns, in effect, were a worse problem than the disease itself for children.
