Larry O’Connor: Biden Ignores Actual Bipartisanship So He Can Call Republicans Racist

There was a lot of talk about bipartisanship during Joe Biden’s State of the Union debacle earlier in the week. The most divisive, partisan, and divisive Democrats in the last 50 years stood before Americans and pretending to respect Republicans.

He claimed that he would work with anyone who was open to putting aside political differences in order to do good work for the American people.

You know, we’re often told that Democrats and Republicans can’t work together.  We have proven the cynics wrong over the last two years.

Yes, there were many disagreements.  Yes, sometimes Democrats went it alone.

But every time, Democrats & Republicans have come together.

…

And to my Republican friends, if we could work together in the last Congress, there’s no reason we can’t work together and find consensus on important things in this Congress as well.

All of this is false, fraudulent and a scam, which we all know. Joe Biden never hesitated to split our country along partisan lines during his 50 years of service in Washington, D.C.

However, yesterday in the House of Representatives, something truly remarkable happened – an incredible show of bipartisan agreement on a bill that brought 31 Democrats across the aisle to vote with the Republican majority.

The House of Representatives has oversight responsibility for the affairs of District of Columbia’s government. This government, which is dominated by Democrats and consists of a number of federal buildings that house the nation’s business, recently rewrote its criminal codes.

As with every major urban center dominated by Democrats over the past few years, D.C. has seen an accelerated rise in violent crime. Businesses were set on fire and looted while Mayor Muriel Bowser painted a Black Lives Matter street mural.

Demands for criminal justice reform and defunding of the police “no justice, no peace” It was used as a prelude and catalyst for dramatic increases in homicides.

So, of course, in their wisdom, the Democrats in the Washington district council decided to reduce the penalties for all of those crimes because…well, no one can really answer that question. There is no reason any government would lower the penalties for violent crime at the same time that these crimes are on the rise. To justify such a bizarre move, you must have an advanced degree from a liberal arts college in something stupid.

It was so ridiculous that Mayor Bowser opposed it with a vote of no confidence. It’s true, the Republicans in Congress, 31 Democrats, and Muriel Bowser, the Democrat Mayor, all agree on something. Can you picture it?

It is clear that a bipartisan coalition this large passed the bill through the House. This indicates that similar results will occur when the bill moves to the Senate. Joe Biden now has an opportunity for bipartisanship to be realized.

What is Biden’s plan? Is Biden actually going to follow his rhetoric and actually sign a bill that would represent Washington politicians working together in the interest of our country’s citizens?

It is not.

Biden has already indicated that he will veto any bill that makes it to his desk.

And why? Why?

Eleanor Holmes Norton, a delegate representing Washington, D.C. as a non-voting House member, stated, “By scheduling this vote, I can only conclude that the Republican leadership believes that D.C. residents, a majority of whom are Black and Brown, are either unworthy or incapable of governing themselves.”

Alexandra Ocasio Cortez was the first to jump onboard. “everything is racist” Train by claiming GOP legislators “claim they believe in the sacred right to vote while denying that right to vote to an overwhelmingly Black city” They were accused of trying to “meddle into the business of D.C. residents.”

Of course, reporters covering these fine Democrats didn’t seem like they would follow up with the logical questions… “Are your 31 Democrat colleagues who also voted for this white supremacists too? How about Mayor Bowser? How racist is she, right?”

This bipartisan House vote has another interesting story. Angie Craig, a Minnesota congresswoman was one of the 31 Democrats who voted with Republicans. The liberal Democrat was attacked by one of the violent criminals in her apartment building’s elevator just hours before she joined Republicans in discrediting her fellow Democrats in D.C., who are trying to relax penalties for violent criminals. Although she suffered minor injuries, she was able vote. One wonders, however, if her personal experience influenced her decision to take the floor.

Are you up for it?

Joe Biden is a fan of bipartisanship and can convince Susan Collins or Mitt Romney to vote to fund billions of dollars in deficit spending. But when it comes down to doing something that will improve the lives of all Americans visiting the capital, he retreats to the divisive partisan cave where he has lived for the past five decades.

This time, innocent people will be killed because their murderers were allowed on the streets because of his hateful, divisive politics.
