Labor Department: Dollar General Safety Fines Top $15 Million Since 2017

Dollar General Retailer was also hit with additional penalties for worker safety violations. This brings the total penalty imposed on Discount Retailer to $15 million. the Department of Labor Since 2017.

A press release from the department stated that merchandise was found blocking exit routes in Florida’s two stores by federal inspectors working for the Occupational Safety & Health Administration. They also discovered unsafe stockpiles of merchandise and blocked exit routes in a store in Alabama.

“Dollar General’s growing record of disregard for safety measures makes it abundantly clear that the company puts profit before people,” Kurt Petermeyer, OSHA Regional Administrator, released a statement. “These violations are preventable, and failing to prevent them shows a blatant disregard for the workers on whom they depend to keep their stores operating. OSHA continues to make every effort to hold Dollar General accountable for its failures.”

Dollar General is given fifteen days to comply.

Dollar General did not respond immediately to a request for comments.

According to the agency, similar violations have been identified in 19 stores across Alabama, Florida, and Georgia over the past eleven months.

In November 2022, seven inspections were conducted in the three states. This was in addition to $1.6million in similar penalties from October. Dollar General was subject to a $2.7 million penalty in November 2022. nearly $1.3 million in fines Three other locations in Georgia were also subject to similar violations.
