L.A. County, 11 other Calif. counties, cleared partially to reopen businesses

Several counties in California are preparing to reopen after the state hit a vaccination threshold.
According to state officials on Friday, 12 counties, including Los Angeles County, are set to move from the state’s most restrictive purple tier to the less restrictive red tier. This will allow businesses like restaurants, gyms, museums and zoos to reopen in a limited capacity.
On Thursday, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.) announced the state had reached its goal of vaccinating two million people in the state’s hardest hit areas.

“We have a numerical goal that to me is more important than the 11 million, and that’s the two million goal,” Newsom stated. “Which is our short term goal to address the issue of equity and to make sure that we’re administering in a targeted manner these vaccines. We’re at 1.9 million today. On Friday, we will pass that goal.”
Schools will also have the option of bringing students in grades seven through 12 back for in-person learning.
The move out of the most restrictive tier came at the same time the recall effort aimed at Newsom has surpassed two million signatures.
