Kyle Rittenhouse makes first in-person court appearance

The prosecutors and defense attorneys in the Kyle Rittenhouse case have been busy assembling their witness lists in preparation for a return to court on Sept. 17. Rittenhouse, 18, made his first in-person court appearance on Friday during which both sides agreed to have a juror questionnaire ready by Aug. 1. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, his previous legal proceedings have been held virtually.
The Illinois teen is accused of fatally shooting two people in Kenosha, Wisconsin while defending businesses during BLM protests last summer. Protests started to emerge following the police shooting of Jacob Blake, a Black father.

Meanwhile, Rittenhouse is charged with first-degree reckless homicide, first-degree intentional homicide and first-degree recklessly endangering safety in the fatal shootings of Joseph Rosenbaum, 36, and Anthony Huber, 26, during the August protest in Kenosha. Sheriff’s officials have reported that security will be tight around all proceedings related to the case.
Rittenhouse is currently free on bail and living at an undisclosed location due to death threats. His trial is set to last two weeks and will begin November 1.
