KJP Won’t Answer If Biden Would Serve All Eight Years of Presidency If Reelected Right After He Announced 2024 Bid

White House Corrects Record on Biden’s Potential Second Term

Just hours after President Joe Biden announced his re-election campaign, the White House found itself in a scramble to clarify how long he plans to stay in office.

During a press briefing, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre responded to a reporter’s question about whether Biden plans to serve a full second term if re-elected in 2024 with a vague answer, creating uncertainty and generating buzz.

Concerns about Biden’s age and fitness to serve a full eight years in office have already been raised, even among Democrats. At 80 years old, Biden is already the oldest person to be president, and would be 86 at the end of a second term.

Less than an hour later, Jean-Pierre sought to clarify her initial statement with a tweet, citing the Hatch Act as the reason for her vague response. She confirmed that if re-elected, Biden would serve all eight years.

Multiple reporters reacted to the tweet, calling it a “clean up” job and the like.

Biden’s Re-Election Campaign

Earlier in the day, Biden made his re-election campaign official with a video announcement, in which he confirmed that Vice President Kamala Harris will remain his running mate.

Despite a recent poll showing that only 26% of Americans and 47% of Democrats want Biden to run again, the same poll found that 78% of Democrats approve of his job performance, and 81% said they would at least probably support him if he becomes the nominee in the general election.

On the Republican side, former President Donald Trump is seeking re-election and is generally leading GOP primary polls by wide margins.
