Kevin McCarthy demands House probe into Biden’s handling of Maui wildfires.

House Speaker Calls for ‍Investigation ‌into Biden Administration’s Response to Maui Wildfires

House Speaker⁣ Kevin McCarthy ⁤(R-CA) has expressed deep concern over ⁣the Biden administration’s handling of‍ the ‍devastating wildfires in Maui. As the death toll surpasses ‌100 ⁤and nearly 1,000 people ‍remain missing,⁢ McCarthy⁣ believes a congressional investigation is necessary.

“We saw the devastation that happened in Maui… I’m very concerned about the response,” McCarthy ‌stated‍ during a press conference in⁢ New York. “We still ‍have hundreds of individuals that are ‍missing. I think there’s going to have to be a congressional investigation into the ‌response on Maui. How could you lose‌ that many Americans?”

McCarthy ‌went on to criticize President Joe Biden for ‍his ⁤lack of public comment on‌ the Hawaii fires. He ‍deemed the president’s silence⁤ “unacceptable” and vowed to work with committees⁢ to uncover the truth and prevent such a tragedy from occurring‍ again.

The wildfires in ‌Maui have claimed the lives of 115‌ people, with⁢ an ⁢estimated 850 to ⁣1,000 individuals still ‌unaccounted ⁣for. ⁤This makes it the deadliest wildfire event in modern ⁣U.S. history, causing extensive damage to⁤ nearly 3,000 structures and costing‍ billions of dollars.

President Biden and first lady Jill Biden visited Maui on Monday to assess the devastation and meet with victims and‌ their families. This visit came after ‍initial criticism of a slow response to the disaster. The‌ fires first ignited on August 8.

During‍ his visit, President Biden promised additional aid to⁣ support the⁣ rebuilding efforts in Maui. He expressed solidarity with the affected communities, stating, “The ⁣country grieves ‌with you, stands with you,⁢ and will do everything possible to help you recover.”

In a speech delivered in Lahaina, a town severely impacted by the fires, Biden shared a personal connection to the devastation, recounting a fire ⁢that occurred near his Delaware home in 2004. However, he acknowledged‌ that‍ comparing difficulties ⁤would not be appropriate.

The Washington Examiner has⁤ reached out to the⁢ White House for⁤ comment on McCarthy’s ‌call for an investigation.
