KY Gov. Supports Trans Procedures Tied to Harmful Effects on Kids’ Health

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear’s Stance on ‍Gender-Affirming ‌Treatments for ⁢Minors

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has been at the‍ center of controversy⁢ regarding his position on sex change surgeries for minors. While he claims ⁢to ‍oppose such ⁢surgeries,⁣ he supports other “gender-affirming” treatments that ‌have been‍ associated with negative health ⁣outcomes‌ for children.

This‌ issue has become a major⁢ topic in the Kentucky gubernatorial race. Beshear has‌ recently stated‌ that ⁢he does not support transgender surgeries on ⁢children and denies their⁢ occurrence in the state. However, he openly ⁣advocates for‍ non-surgical procedures. In his veto message of a bill ‌banning all transgender procedures on children, including surgeries, ‍Beshear argued that such a⁣ ban would lead to ⁤an increase in youth suicide rates.

Controversy Surrounding Beshear’s Claims

These ⁣claims made by‌ Beshear⁣ have been disputed by “detransitioners” and medical associations. They argue that transgender treatments on minors do not actually improve mental health or reduce suicide rates. Additionally, medical groups have warned about potential⁣ health risks associated ‌with non-surgical gender procedures.

The American College of ⁢Pediatricians, a medical association group composed of over 600 physicians and healthcare workers, states that there is no‌ long-term evidence demonstrating the⁤ safety or effectiveness of puberty ⁢blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgeries for transgender ⁢youth. They argue that these interventions‍ are experimental and that parents cannot provide informed consent,⁢ nor can⁣ minors⁤ assent to these procedures. Furthermore, the best available evidence among‍ adults‌ shows ‌that medical⁣ intervention fails to reduce suicide⁣ rates.

Moreover, ‌the American ‌College of Pediatricians highlights ‍the potential ⁢health risks of giving children cross-sex hormones, such ‍as an increased risk of heart attacks, stroke, diabetes, blood clots, and cancers throughout their lives.

Dr. Miriam Grossman, a psychiatrist who specializes in treating children, adolescents, and adults, and ⁢the⁣ author of ⁢the book ‍ “Lost in‍ Trans Nation: A Child Psychiatrist’s Guide Out ⁢of the Madness,” has‍ expressed concerns about giving⁤ young children with gender dysphoria puberty blockers. She argues that puberty is ‍a necessary ⁢stage of development and blocking it is unnecessary. She believes that the majority of ‌children, if ‍allowed to go through puberty, will become comfortable with their bodies and⁤ that preventing‌ puberty may actually⁢ solidify ⁢their dysphoria instead of allowing⁤ them to grow out of it.

Accusations and‌ Counterarguments

Beshear has ⁢been accused by Kentucky Republicans of lying about his record on gender reassignment surgeries for ‌minors. They claim that such surgeries have taken ⁣place in Kentucky, despite Beshear’s denial. A hospital ‍affiliated‍ with the University of Kentucky has reportedly performed a‌ small number of non-genital gender reassignment surgeries on minors, such as mastectomies.

Kentucky Attorney General and⁢ Republican nominee for governor, Daniel Cameron, stated, “Andy ⁣Beshear can’t stop lying about gender reassignment surgery for minors. ⁣We know for a fact that gender ‌reassignment surgery for kids was taking place in Kentucky. Andy Beshear sided ‌with his far-left allies and⁣ vetoed a bill to ban these procedures. Andy is lying in the middle of ⁢an election to mislead voters.⁢ Kentuckians are smart enough to‍ see through his shameful lies.”

Beshear’s⁣ office did not respond to a request for⁢ comment.
