Kari Lake, the 2022 Arizona GOP gubernatorial nominee, has shared the Bible verse that inspired her to leave the media and pursue a career in politics. Throughout her 30-year career in media, Lake honed her storytelling skills, which are evident in “Unafraid.” The book delves into her spiritual reawakening during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, a time when she worked remotely and began questioning the state of corporate media.

While anchoring from home, Lake stumbled upon a dusty Bible on her desk. She started reading it during commercial breaks and found that the words had a profound impact on her. The contrast between the Bible and the news scripts she was reading became clear to her. She realized that the Bible held the truth, while the news scripts contained lies.

As Lake continued to work in the media during the COVID-19 pandemic, she became increasingly disillusioned with the industry. She felt that she was only telling part of the story and compromising her integrity. Lake realized that she had to make a change and answer to God for her actions.

Seeking guidance, Lake turned to the Bible and came across 1 Timothy 6:7: “For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.” This verse resonated with her and gave her the courage to make a life-changing decision.

On Christmas night, 2020, Lake did her last broadcast and officially handed her life over to God. She took a leave of absence and later announced her departure from KSAZ-TV in a viral video. Lake expressed her dissatisfaction with the direction of journalism and her desire to pursue a different path.

In June 2021, Lake announced her candidacy for governor of Arizona and received an endorsement from former President Donald Trump. Although she narrowly lost the general election, Lake continues to challenge the results in court, citing issues with ballot printers and tabulators.
