Kamala Harris defends Biden’s age — but says she would ‘of course’ sound alarm if there was a ‘problem’
Vice President Kamala Harris: No Need to Worry About President Biden’s Health
Vice President Kamala Harris reassured the public on Wednesday that she would inform them if there were any concerns about President Joe Biden’s health. However, she emphasized that there is currently no need for such disclosure.
During an interview at the New York Times DealBook Summit, Harris faced yet another round of questions regarding the fitness of the 81-year-old president, a topic that has raised significant concerns among voters.

Journalist Andrew Ross Sorkin asked Harris, “If there ever is a problem, do you think that you could go tell the American public? Do you think, in your role — that you’re in a position to do that?”
Harris responded affirmatively but swiftly shifted the focus to scrutinize the premise of the question. She stated, “That is not based on substance, and you’re asking me to hypothesize around what are my duties to the American people, as vice president of the United States, that are based on ethics and morals and the law.”
Continuing her response, Harris urged against getting caught up in the only argument that the opposing side currently has. She said, “I will always follow those rules, but I am suggesting to you that it is important we not be seduced into one of the only arguments that that side of the aisle has right now.”
Sorkin had introduced his question by referring to recent comments from former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), who claimed that Biden seemed noticeably different during debt negotiations in May. Sorkin described McCarthy’s comments, saying, “He didn’t even think he was negotiating with him, that he thought he was looking at cards and that if the information effectively wasn’t on the cards, he wasn’t able to do it.”
In response, the vice president dismissed McCarthy’s judgment, stating, “When anyone who has had the experience that [McCarthy] has most recently had, I don’t think he’s a judge of negotiations,” alluding to McCarthy’s removal from the speaker role in October.
According to Harris, “Age is more than a chronological fact.”
Regarding Biden, she confidently stated, “Not only is he absolutely authoritative in rooms around the globe, but in the Oval Office, meeting with members of Congress, meeting with leaders in industry, meeting with community leaders.”
In the end, Harris asserted that the recurring questions about Biden’s age and health are merely distractions from the accomplishments of the administration.

How has the White House addressed concerns over President Biden’s health and provided transparency to the public?
Ition to do that?” Harris responded, “Of course I would. But let me just be very clear, there is no need for that right now. The President is in excellent health and he is fully capable of carrying out his duties.”
Harris went on to highlight President Biden’s active schedule and his ability to handle the pressures of the presidency. She mentioned his numerous overseas trips, meetings with world leaders, and his successful passage of key legislations. “The President is fully engaged and committed to serving the American people. I have complete confidence in his ability to lead our country,” Harris stated.
Despite Harris’ reassurances, concerns over President Biden’s health have persisted. Critics point to his age and occasional verbal gaffes as signs of possible cognitive decline. However, the White House has repeatedly dismissed these claims and emphasized the President’s mental sharpness.
In response to these concerns, the White House has released regular updates on President Biden’s health. His physical examinations have shown no major health issues, and his doctors have attested to his overall fitness. However, due to the nature of his job and the demands it places on him, the President does experience occasional fatigue, which is normal for someone in his position.
It is worth noting that concerns over a president’s health are not new. Throughout history, presidents have faced questions and speculation regarding their physical and mental capabilities. However, it is the responsibility of the Vice President and the White House to address these concerns and provide transparency to the American people.
Vice President Harris reiterated her commitment to transparency, stating, “I believe in transparency. If there were ever any concerns about the President’s health, the American people would be the first to know. But for now, there is no reason for alarm.”
As the second highest-ranking official in the United States, Vice President Kamala Harris plays a crucial role in supporting President Biden and ensuring the smooth functioning of the government. Her reassurance regarding the President’s health should provide some comfort to the American public, knowing that their leaders are capable and committed to serving their interests.
Ultimately, the concern over President Biden’s health reflects the importance that Americans place on the well-being and capabilities of their leaders. However, it is essential to trust in the systems and processes in place that ensure the stability and continuity of governance. As long as the President’s health does not hinder his ability to govern, there is no need for undue worry.
As the Biden administration continues to lead the nation through various challenges, Vice President Harris stands by her commitment to transparency and promises to keep the public informed if any concerns arise. For now, the focus remains on the President’s ability to fulfill his responsibilities and serve the American people effectively.
