Kamala Harris received a not so warm welcome as she finally visited the border, where protesters lined the streets of El Paso while chanting and holding signs which read “Trump won” and “Kamala…too little too late.”

In her first visit since being tapped as Border Czar, Harris toured Customs and Border Protection facilities, met migrant children, held a roundtable and spoke to reporters.

During a press briefing held on Friday, she called for a “humane and orderly” system at the border and reiterated her efforts to tackle the “root causes” of migration. However, she failed to provide many details or outline a plan to combat the growing problem.

Instead, Harris continued to blame the Trump administration while simultaneously calling for the finger pointing to stop. Harris claimed, “we can take all of these perspectives into account and have meaningful good public policy if we just stop the rhetoric and the finger pointing and do what we need to do.”

This comes as mixed messaging from the Biden administration has been cited as a main cause of the influx of illegal immigrants.

During her briefing, Harris claimed “extreme progress” has been made at the border even as data shows the number of illegal crossings has continued to grow. Border officials said they briefed Harris on the situation, saying things had improved in 2018 and 2019, but now detentions have hit a 21-year-high with more than 180 thousand in May alone.

In the meantime, President Trump is set to visit the border on June 30.
