Journalist banned by AI art bot for viral images of Trump in prison

An AI-powered art bot app, Midjourney, recently banned journalist Eliot Higgins, founder of the open-source journalist collective Bellingcat, after he created 50 images of former President Donald Trump being placed under arrest. The images were widely distributed on social media and went viral. Higgins had created the images in response to Trump’s expected indictment.

Midjourney banned Higgins within 24 hours after he created the images. The app also banned the word “arrest” from being used in prompts. However, Higgins does not hold a grudge against the app for banning him, saying that he was “pushing my luck when I did the thread, let alone when it went viral.”

Bellingcat is an international open-source journalism group best known for its reporting on Russia and Ukraine.

Midjourney, an independent research lab for artificial intelligence, did not respond to requests for comment.
