The State Department has declared that” Journalism Is Not A Crime” and that Russia has unfairly detained Wall Street Journal Reporters.

On Sunday, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken publicly announced that Evan Gershkovich, a reporter for the Wall Street Journal, had been unfairly detained by Russian authorities, giving federal officials more tools to secure his launch.

Gershkovich, who was detained last week on suspicion of espionage by Russia’s’s Federal Security Service( FSB ), was officially classified, according to Blinken. The Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs’ Office at the State Department is given authority under the group to manage the circumstance.

According to Vedant Patel, a State Department spokesman, news is not illegal. ” We condemn the Kremlin’s’s ongoing war against the truth and its continued suppression of active accents in Russia.”

Blinken called for the” instant transfer” of Gershkovich and Paul Whelan, a U.S. Marine veteran detained in the nation since 2018, during their conversation last week with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Gershokovich was detained in Yekaterinburg, which is located in the Ural Mountains, on March 29 as part of the initial arrest of an American journalist on spy prices since 1986.

The Russian Foreign Ministry asserted that the US was politicizing Gershokovich’s’s confinement, stating that” it is unacceptable for officials in Washington and the northern media to stir up a controversy with the express purpose of giving this case political coloring.”

The foreign ministry stated that” Blinken’s’s attention was drawn to the need to respect the rulings of the Russian government, taken in accordance with the law and international responsibility of a Russian Federation.”

Russia has not yet offered any proof in support of the accusations made against Gershkovich, but it has asserted that he was” caught red-handed while trying to obtain secret content, collecting facts constituting a state secret under the guise of literary situation.”

Gershkovich could spend up to 20 years in prison, according to The New York Times. The Wall Street Journal” strongly denies” the accusations, as did Gershkovich last week during a court appearance.

Whelan is reportedly incarcerated for 16 years for espionage-related offenses, which he denies and the US government claims are unfounded.

Lately, President Joe Biden stated to reporters that he had told Russia to” let him go” regarding Gershkovich.
