Johnson rejects fundraising, prioritizes politics over people.
Speaker Mike Johnson’s Email Sparks Attention with a Twist
In a bold and underlined font, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) sent out an email this week to fundraise, but it caught people’s attention for an unexpected reason. The email read, “I refuse to put people over politics.” However, it seems that Johnson may have mistyped a common phrase, making it all the more intriguing.
Johnson, who was recently elected as speaker of the House, proudly refers to himself as the “next boogeyman” to the “liberal media.” According to him, they are putting “Americans LAST,” while he claims to be putting “Americans FIRST.”
The Washington Examiner reached out to Johnson’s office to seek clarification on the email, adding to the curiosity surrounding the situation.
Democratic Senator Mocks Johnson’s Email
Minority Leader Hakeem Jefferies (D-NY) took the opportunity to poke fun at Johnson’s email in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. Jefferies wrote, “House Democrats will continue to put people over politics. Why is that an issue for our Republican colleagues?”
As the House of Representatives faces a deadline of Nov. 17 to fund the government, Johnson’s first week as speaker has been eventful. So far, the House has passed two spending bills, including one to fund Israel and its war against Hamas in Gaza. These bills will provide funding for the legislative branch, as well as the Department of Interior, Environment, and other related agencies.
