John Leguizamo smashes pinata in response to Trump gaining traction with Latino voters
Comedian John Leguizamo made a bold statement by destroying a pinata in protest of Donald Trump’s rising popularity among Latino voters. Leguizamo criticized the Democrats’ strategy and highlighted stark differences in the approaches of Trump and Biden to win over this demographic. His actions and words on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” conveyed his concerns over the shifting dynamics of Latino voter support.
Comedian John Leguizamo destroyed a pinata over former President Donald Trump’s growing support among Latino voters, arguing that “the Democrats are in trouble.”
Leguizamo stated that President Joe Biden’s campaign is spending over $50 million to win over Latino voters, whereas Trump’s campaign is reusing an ad from 2020 to court this voter bloc. The comedian, who is Latino, said that Trump’s “lazy a** strategy’s actually working,” to which he then took a pinata underneath his chair and destroyed it while saying a flurry of curse words.
“It looks like the Democrats are in trouble,” Leguizamo said on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show. “And you might be thinking, ‘How is this possible? Donald Trump is winning Latinos?’ ‘Build the wall’ Donald Trump? ‘Mass deportations’ Donald Trump? Guy who thinks Daddy Yankee is a baseball player, Donald Trump? But the truth is, in 2024, Latino voters have something else on their minds.”
Leguizamo then played several clips of news commentators stating that inflation and the economy are the biggest topics for Latino voters ahead of the election. The comedian acknowledged that inflation is a serious problem in the United States right now, joking that The Price is Right game show would need to be renamed “The Price is F***ing What Now?”
Polling data from last week, conducted from March 22-28 among 1,012 recipients, showed Biden leading Trump in favorability with Latino voters, with Biden at 41% compared to Trump at 32%. In December 2021, Biden had a favorability of 53%, while Trump’s favorability was at 24%.

Trump is favored over Biden on who would do a better job at addressing inflation and the economy. Trump is also favored on border security and his mental fitness to serve as president, according to a separate poll.
Latino voters are not the only voting bloc that Trump has made noticeable growth in, as support for the former president among black men has also grown. In 2020, 87% of black men favored Biden while just 12% favored Trump, whereas 57% support Biden this year and 30% support Trump, one poll found.
