A Generous Donation to President Joe Biden
One such multi-billionaire is Barry Diller, the founder of Fox Broadcasting Group and USA Broadcasting, and a senior executive of IAC and Expedia Group. According to the New York Post, Diller has recently donated over $100,000 to the re-election campaign of President Joe Biden.
But here’s where it gets interesting. Diller has also given $50,000 to support the presidential campaign of Republican Chris Christie, the former governor of New Jersey. This follows a growing trend of Democrats trying to influence Republican primary elections.
Democrats Interfering in Republican Primaries
According to the Washington Post, Democrats spent tens of millions of dollars before the 2022 midterm elections to prop up Republican primary candidates whom they perceived as weaker and easier to defeat in the general election.
However, this strategy didn’t always produce the desired results. The Post calculated that Democrats spent a whopping $53.3 million in 13 different Republican primaries, but less than half of their preferred candidates actually won.
Despite these mixed results, liberals continue to persist in their efforts. They have even donated to Chris Christie, with contributions ranging from modest amounts to more substantial sums.
The Real Motive: A Pathological Obsession with Donald Trump
So why are liberals supporting Christie? The answer lies in their pathological obsession with former President Donald Trump. They want someone who can take on Trump in debates and potentially prevent his return to power.
For example, Kara Swisher, the host of Vox Media’s “On with Kara Swisher” podcast, gave Christie a modest $5. She explained her reasoning on a recent episode of her podcast, stating, “I want him to be on the stage. I want him to reach that number. And I really like debates. I watch them, and I think it’s important that Trump has someone who actually can take him on a little better.”
But it’s not just Swisher who is showing support for Christie. Barry Diller, with a net worth of $3.8 billion according to Forbes, has also made a significant contribution. Despite Christie’s low favorability among registered Republicans and his low polling numbers for the presidential nomination, Diller sees his campaign as a worthwhile investment.
Stopping Trump at All Costs
In an email to the New York Post, Diller made his motive clear: “I think nominating Donald Trump has such destructive consequences that supporting Chris Christie’s campaign to stop that from happening is something I very much support. I also like and respect Christie.”
It’s evident that for Diller and other mega-rich liberals, stopping Trump is their top priority. Whether they truly take Christie seriously or not is up for debate. But one thing is certain – their actions and donations speak volumes about their determination to prevent Trump’s return to power.
Living in a world far removed from the concerns of ordinary Americans, these multi-billionaires have the power to shape the political landscape. And if they can convince themselves that they represent “democracy,” then they can convince themselves of anything.
