JD Vance’s Virginia home ‘yarn bombed’
Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH) has reportedly not received a warm welcome from his northern Virginia neighbors.
The new Ohio senator’s $1.5 million house in a “liberal enclave” is currently being covered in yarn graffiti, known as “yarn bombing,” by locals. This is a form of vandalism where objects are covered in knitted yarn. According to Politico, Vance’s home is situated in a neighborhood filled with Pride flags and Kindness posters.
Following his victory over Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) in the 2022 midterm elections, Vance took office as a senator in January. Typically, senators purchase homes in the Washington, D.C. area due to the six-year terms offering more job security than the two-year terms in the House of Representatives.
However, this isn’t the first time a senator has been unwelcome in their Virginia home. In January 2021, Senator Josh Hawley’s (R-MO) residence was swarmed by protestors before the joint session of Congress to certify the 2020 presidential election. Hawley’s wife even filed a criminal complaint against the protestors who allegedly yelled outside the residence while the senator was away and his wife and newborn were inside.
At this time, Vance’s office has declined to comment on the situation.
