Jasmine Crockett backs Christian Menefee over Al Green
Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) endorsed Rep. Christian Menefee (D-TX) over longtime Rep. Al Green (D-TX) ahead of a May 26 Democratic primary runoff. In a TV ad, Crockett praised Menefee as a “new generation” challenger who has taken on MAGA in Texas and now works in Congress. The two incumbents effectively became rivals after Texas redrew their districts under new redistricting maps last year. The contest also centers on generational differences: Green is 78 and has served for 20 years, while menefee is 37 and was sworn in earlier this year after winning a special election to replace the late Rep. Sylvester Turner. Crockett’s endorsement comes shortly after her own loss in a competitive Democratic primary for Senate, and it is described as among the first in the runoff.

“We need a new generation of fighters who are ready to throw down for what’s right,” Crockett said in a TV ad. “My friend Christian Menefee is that fighter. Christian Menifee took on MAGA in Texas and won. In Congress, I see him doing the work firsthand every single day.”

Crockett’s endorsement is one of the first since losing a hotly contested Democratic primary for Senate to state representative James Talarico.
