January 6 Committee Postpones Its Upcoming Hearing

The House Select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot postponed its Wednesday hearing.

No reason has currently been given for the postponement, though the hearing set for Thursday will still be held, The Hill reported. Former acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen, former acting Deputy Attorney General Richard Donoghue and former Office of Legal Counsel head Steven Engel were reportedly expected to appear at the hearing.

Rosen and Donahue voluntarily chose to testify and previously spoke with the Senate Judiciary Committee in October, The Hill reported. The committee had said Wednesday’s hearing would focus on former President Donald Trump’s attempt to “replace the Attorney General” to spread ” his false stolen election claims.”

“In our third hearing, you will see that President Trump corruptly planned to replace the Attorney General so the U.S. Justice Department would spread his false stolen election claims,” Republican Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney said Thursday, according to The Hill. “In the days before Jan. 6 President Trump told his top Justice Department officials: ‘Just say the election was corrupt and leave the rest to me and the Republican congressmen.’” (RELATED: Adam Schiff Claims He Has ‘Powerful’ Evidence About Trump And Jan 6)

Trump allegedly pressured Rosen to investigate election fraud, label the election as “corrupt” and force Georgia to overturn its results in the 2020 presidential election, according to the New York Times. The former president reportedly called on Rosen to be ousted for refusing to go along with those plans.

Attorney General William Barr privately told the former president that the Department of Justice found no evidence of widespread election fraud after conducting an investigation into voting regularities, The Times reported.

The postponement of Wednesday’s hearing came a day after the committee lost its key witness, former Trump campaign manager Bill Stepien, for Tuesday’s hearing after his wife had reportedly gone into labor. The hearing was then delayed for 30-40 minutes.
