Texas state Sen. James Talarico (D) is sending “love” back to Pastor Brooks Potteiger, after the pastor made controversial comments insinuating Talarico is not a born-again Christian.
The Texas Democratic U.S. Senate candidate responded with a post on X: “Jesus loves. Christian Nationalism kills. You may pray for my death, Pastor, but I still love you. I love you more than you could ever hate me.”
Potteiger, leader of Pilgrim Hill Reformed Fellowship in Tennessee, made his comments on the Reformation Red Pill podcast, hosted by Joshua Haymes, last week.
Potteiger and Haymes were responding to clips of Talarico articulating his views on abortion, feminism, and transgenderism in relation to Christianity.
Haymes said, “I pray that God kills him.” Then, he continued by saying, “ultimately, that means killing his heart and raising him up to new life in Christ.”
Potteiger responded with “Right, right, we want him crucified with Christ.”
War Secretary Pete Hegseth is a known parishioner of Potteiger. In 2025, Hegseth hosted a prayer service with Potteiger, which was dubbed the first in a series of monthly religious sermons at the Pentagon.
