James Comer seeks Todd Blanche testimony for Epstein investigation
House Oversight Committee Chairman james Comer says he’s communicating with the Justice Department and wants acting U.S. Attorney General Todd blanche to appear for an interview in July about how the DOJ is handling the release of Epstein-related files. Comer notes Blanche previously testified in connection with a confirmation and references Democrats’ reaction to earlier oversight questioning.
Democrats, meanwhile, have been pushing to subpoena Blanche-particularly after testimony involving former Attorney general Pam Bondi-arguing that Blanche is being blamed or portrayed as managing key parts of the inquiry.The committee reports it has conducted 15 interviews (including major political figures and individuals connected to Epstein) and has released multiple document batches obtained through subpoenas tied to Epstein’s estate.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) is working with the Department of Justice to bring in acting Attorney General Todd Blanche for an interview on his handling of the Epstein files release.
Comer told reporters Wednesday that he is in “communication” with the Justice Department, as he entered a closed-door interview with Bill Gates on the Microsoft co-founder’s ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

“I would like for Todd Blanche to come in in July,” Comer told reporters. “I think we all know he has a big confirmation coming up, so, but I’ve always wanted Blanche to come in, and let me be very clear, Todd Blanche came in a month ago, he came in with Pam Bondi to answer questions from the oversight committee, and the Democrats stormed out and ran to you all to try to be the first to get on MSNBC and and talk about their outrage.”
Democrats have sought to subpoena Blanche, especially after the oversight panel interviewed former Attorney General Pam Bondi last month on the DOJ’s slow release of millions of files related to Epstein.
“She continues to push all of the investigation and the blame on acting AG Todd Blanche. She said, and I quote, ‘Acting AG Blanche was managing the entire investigation,’” ranking member Robert Garcia (CA) told reporters on the day of Bondi’s hearing.
The oversight committee has conducted 15 interviews, including with former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Bondi, former Attorney General Bill Barr, Epstein’s former associate and girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell, and billionaire Les Wexner.
As part of the investigation, the committee has released multiple batches of documents related to the files, many of which were obtained from the committee’s subpoena to Epstein’s estate.
