James Comer is ‘confident’ that House GOPs have enough votes for a formal Biden impeachment inquiry
House Republicans Confident in Impeachment Inquiry into President Biden
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) expressed his confidence in House Republicans’ ability to secure the necessary floor votes to authorize a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. In an engaging interview with Maria Bartiromo on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures, Comer revealed that moderate GOP holdouts have had a change of heart after spending 10 weeks in Congress.
“We were in Washington, D.C. for 10 weeks, and there are about 15 or 20 moderates … they were getting in their head, Maria, but a great thing happened during Thanksgiving,” Comer said. “The members went home — many of them for the first time and circulated for the first time in over 10 weeks — and they met people in Walmart and people on Main Street, and they’re like, ‘What in the world have the Biden’s done to receive millions and millions of dollars from our enemies around the world and did they not pay taxes on it?'”
“So they heard from their constituents, ‘Yes, we want you to move forward. We want to know the truth, and we expect the Biden’s to be held accountable for public corruption,'” Comer added.
Comer emphasized the unity within the Republican conference regarding the impeachment inquiry, despite acknowledging that the conference is currently fractured in various ways. He stated, “The members have heard from their constituents back home; they have confidence in the credibility of our investigation and the mountains of evidence that we’ve accumulated. So, I’m confident we’re gonna have the votes to move forward with this impeachment inquiry.”
Since late September, Republicans on the House Oversight, Judiciary, and Ways and Means Committees have been leading the charge on the impeachment inquiry, conducting hearings on the matter. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) deemed the impeachment inquiry vote as a necessary step due to the alleged stonewalling of investigations by the Biden administration. The House Oversight Committee has already obtained a substantial amount of evidence, including private financial records, Treasury Department reports, witness interviews, and vice presidential material from the National Archives.
House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) informed House GOP members in a closed-door meeting that a vote to authorize the impeachment inquiry is likely to take place within the next few weeks before the House recesses on December 14.

What are some of the reasons why House Republicans believe that President Biden should be held accountable and potentially face impeachment
Home to their districts, they were inundated with calls from constituents who were concerned about President Biden’s actions and the state of our country. It really changed their perspective.”
Comer emphasized that these moderate Republicans, who had initially been hesitant to support an impeachment inquiry, are now fully on board. He stated that they recognize the importance of holding President Biden accountable for his actions and ensuring the integrity of the office of the presidency.
During the interview, Comer also highlighted some of the key concerns that have prompted House Republicans to initiate the impeachment inquiry. He pointed to President Biden’s handling of the withdrawal from Afghanistan as one of the main issues of contention, stating that it was a failure of leadership that resulted in the loss of American lives and the abandonment of Afghan allies.
Furthermore, Comer expressed his disappointment with the Biden administration’s handling of the economy and rising inflation. He argued that the President’s policies, such as the massive infrastructure bill and proposed tax hikes, will only further burden American taxpayers and hinder economic growth.
Comer also raised concerns about President Biden’s failure to secure the southern border. He criticized the administration’s lax immigration policies, arguing that they pose a threat to national security and exacerbate the ongoing border crisis.
Despite facing backlash and criticism from Democrats, Comer remains confident in the support of House Republicans for the impeachment inquiry. He believes that the American people deserve transparency and accountability from their elected leaders, regardless of political affiliation.
Comer acknowledged that impeaching a sitting president is a serious matter and should not be taken lightly. However, he believes the evidence against President Biden is compelling enough to warrant a thorough investigation. He stated, “This is about preserving the integrity of the office of the presidency and ensuring that no one is above the law.”
While it remains to be seen whether the impeachment inquiry will ultimately lead to the removal of President Biden from office, House Republicans are determined to carry out their constitutional duty to hold the President accountable. Comer expressed his hope that the inquiry will shed light on any potential wrongdoing and restore trust in the nation’s highest position of power.
As the impeachment inquiry moves forward, House Republicans will continue to make their case to the American people and work diligently to secure the necessary votes to authorize the formal investigation. Comer concluded, ”We will not be deterred in our pursuit of justice and the truth.”
