James Bond Film Producer Reveals The One Scene Used To Test All Would-Be 007s During Auditioning

The film producer for the James Bond movie franchise revealed in an interview last last week that all would-be 007s must audition a seduction scene from one of one of the very first Bond films.

Film producer Michael G. Wilson, who runs Eon Productions with Barbara Broccoli, said during an event at the British Film Institute that all actors auditioning for the Bond role are tested from a seduction scene in 1963 film “From Russia With Love,” starring Sean Connery.

“We always use the same scene … and that’s the one in ‘From Russia With Love,’ where Bond comes back to his room after the assassination, and he starts taking off his shirt, goes into the room to bathe,” Wilson said. “Then he hears something, takes his gun, goes in and the girl’s in the bed.”

Wilson said that is the “test” that the movie franchise uses, adding: “Anyone who can bring that scene off is right for Bond. It’s tough to do.”

Entertainment columnist Christian Toto wrote a piece for The Daily Wire over the weekend about Hollywood “woke-ifying” the 007 movie franchise.

Bond’s long time producers, the Broccoli family, recently suggested to Variety the next 007 will be … different. Barbara Broccoli gave a hint of how the British Super Spy, that began in 1962 with “Dr. No.” may ‘evolve’ going forward.

“It’s an evolution,” Broccoli said. “Bond is evolving just as men are evolving. I don’t know who’s evolving at a faster pace.”

Production on any new Bond adventure is at least two years away, Broccoli says, and her team haven’t given clues as to who might don the classic Bond tuxedo next.

“The thing is, it’s going to be a couple of years off,” Broccoli said. “And when we cast Bond, it’s a 10-, 12-year commitment. So he’s probably thinking, ‘Do I really want that thing? Not everybody wants to do that. It was hard enough getting [Daniel Craig to do it].”

“That’s why, when people go, ‘Oh, who are you going to get?’ it’s not just about casting an actor for a film. It’s about a reinvention, and ‘Where are we taking it? What do we want to do with the character?’” says Broccoli. “And then, once we figure that out, who’s the right person for that particular reinvention?”
