Israeli hostages killed by IDF were mistakenly identified as combatants, official confirms
Israeli Hostages Mistakenly Killed by Israeli Forces in Gaza
According to an initial inquiry report released on Saturday, three Israeli hostages tragically lost their lives in Gaza. The incident occurred on Friday in an area where Hamas militants operate, often disguising themselves as civilians during intense combat.
An Israeli military official informed Reuters that the hostages were holding white flags, each with “a stick and a white cloth.” Unfortunately, a soldier who perceived a threat opened fire, resulting in the immediate deaths of two hostages. The third hostage, wounded and calling for help in Hebrew, also fell victim to another burst of fire despite a ceasefire order from the battalion commander.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his deep sorrow, calling the incident “an unbearable tragedy.” He posted on X, formerly Twitter, stating, “Together with the entire people of Israel, I bow my head in deep sorrow. All of Israel is grieving their loss this evening.”
Names of the Abducted Hostages
- Alon Shamriz
- Samer Al-Talka
- Yotam Haim
The three hostages were abducted on October 7, and unfortunately, more than 100 hostages still remain in Gaza.
