Israel launches strikes against Iran on same day Trump objected to attacks – Washington Examiner

On Thursday, Israel conducted airstrikes against Iran shortly after president Donald Trump cautioned against such attacks, hoping instead for a diplomatic resolution regarding iran’s nuclear capabilities. Trump’s administration has been directed too negotiate with Iran, emphasizing the importance of preventing any military actions that could jeopardize potential agreements. In anticipation of Israel’s actions, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz warned of an expected retaliatory strike from Iran following the airstrikes. The situation underscores ongoing tensions in the region and the complexities of international diplomacy related to Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

Israel conducted a strike in Iran on Thursday, hours after President Donald Trump cautioned Israel against one.

Trump had warned that a strike could happen Thursday but later hoped for a diplomatic resolution.

“We remain committed to a Diplomatic Resolution to the Iran Nuclear Issue! My entire Administration has been directed to negotiate with Iran. They could be a Great Country, but they first must completely give up hopes of obtaining a Nuclear Weapon,” he posted on Truth Social.

Trump didn’t want a strike to compromise a deal. “As long as I think there is agreement, I don’t want them going in because I think that would blow it,” Trump said during an event at the White House. “It might help it, actually, but it also could blow it.”

An Israel Defense Forces spokesperson told Axios that only “necessary” activities should take place starting Friday morning. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz expects a counterattack from Iran.

“Following the State of Israel’s preemptive strike against Iran, a missile and drone attack against the state of Israel and its civilian population is expected in the immediate future,” Katz said.
