The Flow of Billions: Federal Funding for LGBT Initiatives
Over the past three fiscal years, an astonishing $4.1 billion in federal money has been allocated to support LGBT initiatives in the United States and around the world, according to an investigation by The Epoch Times.
From October 1, 2020, to September 30, 2023, the U.S. government issued more than 1,100 grants to fund projects promoting LGBT rights globally. These findings were uncovered through a review of a federal spending website.
The range of projects funded is extensive, covering a wide array of initiatives.

For instance, the LGBT Life Center in Norfolk, Virginia, received a $1.8 million grant in 2022 to establish a ”safe space for LGBTQ youth and adults to seek support and resources.” Similarly, the Serbian activist group Grupa Izadji was awarded a $500,000 grant to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in Serbia’s workplaces and business communities.
Even smaller countries like Armenia are not excluded from this funding. The Pink Human Rights Defender, an Armenian activist group, received $1 million to empower the LGBTI community in the country.
The federal spending website allows users to filter grants based on specific keywords. When the keyword “LGBT” was used, the search yielded 1,181 grants, 31 loans, and nine direct payments over the past three fiscal years.
In total, the government issued a staggering 454,821 grants during the last fiscal year alone.
Government grants provide free money for specific purposes, while federal loans offer low-interest repayment options over extended periods. Direct payments from the government can be unrestricted or designated for a particular use.
When focusing specifically on grants related to the keyword “LGBT,” individual payouts of at least $1 million amounted to a combined total of over $3.7 billion. Numerous smaller grants were also awarded for LGBT initiatives but were not included in the review.
Furthermore, a search for grants containing the keyword “transgender” resulted in 574 listings. Among these, grants totaling nearly $478 million were awarded for projects related to transgender issues. The U.S. government also issued seven direct payments and nine loans in this category.
An independent researcher, who prefers to remain anonymous, has been diligently tracking how the federal government allocates funds for grants related to gender ideology.
His interest in this subject began when he lost his job in the oil field during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. While struggling to make ends meet, he discovered that taxpayer dollars were being funneled into LGBT activist causes, while he and his friends received little relief from the government.
“I couldn’t believe it,” he exclaimed. “We were all being laid off, excluded from the COVID money being handed out to everyone, and it seemed like nobody cared.”
He now works for a politically left-wing oil company and acknowledges that his superiors would likely disapprove of how he presents his findings on social media.
Through his Twitter account, Randoland.us, which boasts over 12,000 followers, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), he shares his discoveries.
“If you search for grants from the Department of Education with the word ‘equity,’ you’ll be astounded by the amount of money being spent on equity-aligned initiatives,” he revealed. He estimates that he has uncovered approximately $240 million in grants dedicated to equity initiatives.
Rainbow Revolution
One of his findings exposed an ongoing grant awarded to Emory University. The grant funds research on ”the rectal mucosal effects of cross-sex hormone therapy among U.S. and Thai transgender women,” as confirmed by The Epoch Times.
This project, which began in 2019 and is set to conclude in July 2024, will receive nearly $3.5 million from the U.S. government.
Under the category of “allergy and infectious diseases research,” the project aims to “assist public and private nonprofit institutions and individuals in establishing, expanding, and improving biomedical research and research training in infectious diseases and related areas,” according to the federal spending website.
Some grants focus on studying specific aspects of the population. For example, one recipient is examining the impact of alcohol on intimate partner violence in transgender and non-gender-conforming adults.
In another project, the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) granted nearly $350,000 to translate the Homosaurus, a thesaurus of LGBT terms, into Spanish.
The Homosaurus website includes definitions for sexual terms such as “anonymous sex,” “aromantic porn films,” “pederasts,” “children’s sexuality,” and “gay children.”
Additionally, the Homosaurus has reclassified words like “gerontophilia,” “ephebophilia,” and “hebephilia” as “fetishes.” These Greek words refer to sexual attraction to the elderly, people aged 15-19, and children aged 11-14, respectively.
The Epoch Times reached out to the NEH for comment on the grant but received no response.
Not only are LGBT cultural projects in America receiving funding, but they are also being allocated substantial amounts. For instance, over $333,000 was granted for an LGBT radio and television digitization and access project.
Another grant of $324,000 was provided to map “historical LGBTQ spaces through gay travel guides.”
Furthermore, a $1 million grant was awarded to Outright Action, an American activist group dedicated to global LGBT advocacy. This funding aims to advance the human rights and social inclusion of LGBTQI+ people worldwide. Outright Action operates in various countries, including Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, Ukraine, the Philippines, Iran, and China.
Another grant supports the creation of a “social biography of same-sex desire in postcolonial Ireland.”
LGBT grants have also been directed towards American educational institutions.
Tiffany Justice, co-founder of Moms for Liberty, expressed her dissatisfaction with the federal government’s approach.
“The grant process is being used by the federal government to change the culture and climate in America’s public schools,” Justice told The Epoch Times.
Based on her experience as a local school board member, Justice witnessed government-funded activist groups infiltrating schools and imposing their ideological agenda.
“The grants are given to ‘community partners,’ who then work to change school procedures to favor and teach LGBT activist worldviews,” she explained.
According to polls conducted by Moms for Liberty, this cultural revolution is being imposed against the wishes of over 70 percent of Americans.
A recent poll by the organization revealed that more than 70 percent of Americans want schools to focus on teaching essential educational skills and oppose the inclusion of gender ideology or sexual orientation instruction in classrooms.
Despite this, funding continues to flow into these projects.
The U.S. Department of Education allocated $1.2 million to “LGBTQIA+ pride centers” in the San Diego Community College District. Another grant of nearly $1.6 million was awarded to address the mental health needs of indigenous, LGBTQIA+, rural, and underserved students in North Dakota schools.
Boston College received a $1.4 million grant from the Department of Education to study “mechanisms of health promotion in diverse youth through gay-straight alliances.” In simpler terms, the grant funded the promotion of gay-straight alliance clubs in middle and high schools across Massachusetts.
The Epoch Times reached out to the Department of Education for comment but received no response.
“The federal government disregards the will of the American people and continues to push this ideology into our schools,” Justice lamented.
“And they’re doing it not just in America, but all over the world.”
