Undocumented immigrant raped child in Brazil, apprehended by ICE in Martha’s Vineyard
ICE Arrests Brazilian Child Rapist Who Entered U.S. Illegally
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has apprehended a child rapist from Brazil who illegally entered the United States after being convicted of sexually assaulting a five-year-old child in 2019. The perpetrator, Saulo Cardona Ferreira, was sentenced to serve 14 years in prison for his heinous crime.
According to a report published by Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Boston, Ferreira is currently wanted by authorities in Brazil for evading his prison sentence. The Brazilian national, aged 37, was arrested on Martha’s Vineyard and poses a significant threat to the community.

Todd Lyons, the ERO Boston Field Office Director, emphasized the importance of Ferreira’s arrest. Lyons stated, “This undocumented Brazilian national represented a significant threat to the inhabitants of Martha’s Vineyard. He sexually assaulted a five-year-old child in his homeland and then ran from authorities when held accountable for his actions. ERO Boston will not allow such predators to threaten our residents. We will continue to apprehend and remove anyone who attempts to use our New England community as a refuge from justice.”
A warrant for Ferreira’s arrest was issued in May 2019 when he failed to serve his sentence in Brazil. ICE reports that he entered the United States sometime after that. It is believed that Ferreira unlawfully crossed the border without being inspected or admitted by an immigration official.
Law enforcement discovered Ferreira’s presence in Martha’s Vineyard in late September and eventually apprehended him during a traffic stop. ICE’s Fugitive Operations Team made the arrest and will keep him in custody until he appears before an immigration judge.
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has confirmed that approximately 600,000 ”gotaways” entered the United States illegally in fiscal year 2023 alone. These individuals bypassed official checkpoints and avoided contact with Border Patrol officers. This alarming statistic highlights the ongoing challenges faced by immigration enforcement.

Ferreira’s capture was made possible by close collaboration between ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) division and local law enforcement agencies. This successful operation highlights the importance of interagency cooperation in apprehending dangerous criminals who pose a threat to society.
It is deeply disturbing to learn that Ferreira was able to enter the United States illegally despite his previous conviction for such a heinous crime. This emphasizes the need for even stronger border security measures to prevent criminals from exploiting vulnerabilities in the immigration system.
Ferreira’s ability to evade his prison sentence in Brazil raises serious concerns about international cooperation in addressing transnational crimes. It is crucial for authorities across borders to share information and work together to ensure that perpetrators of such despicable crimes do not escape justice.
The apprehension of Ferreira is a significant victory for law enforcement and sends a clear message that child predators will not find safe harbor within the United States. Protecting our most vulnerable population remains a top priority, and ICE’s dedication to removing dangerous individuals like Ferreira underscores their commitment to this cause.
However, this incident also serves as a reminder that there is much work to be done in terms of strengthening our immigration policies and procedures. The fact that Ferreira was able to enter the country undetected highlights the need for comprehensive immigration reforms that prioritize national security and public safety.
ICE’s success in apprehending Ferreira also serves as a testament to the effectiveness of enforcement strategies aimed at securing our borders and removing criminal aliens. By focusing on prioritizing the removal of individuals who pose a threat to public safety, ICE can prevent dangerous criminals like Ferreira from causing further harm.
While ICE’s operations are often criticized, this case demonstrates the crucial role they play in protecting communities from individuals who enter the country illegally and commit serious crimes. ICE’s dedication to its mission should be acknowledged and supported, as they work tirelessly to uphold the rule of law and safeguard the well-being of American citizens.
The arrest of Saulo Cardona Ferreira serves as a stark reminder of the need for continued vigilance in addressing the challenges posed by illegal immigration. It calls on policymakers to prioritize border security and strengthens international cooperation in combating transnational crimes. Only through such concerted efforts can we hope to achieve a safer future for our communities and protect the innocent from those who prey upon them.
