Idaho Quadruple Homicide Suspect Had Job Interview With Police Dept That Aided in His Capture

Bryan KohbegerAccording to reports, the 28 year-old PhD student in criminology was arrested after meeting with the police chief of that same department, which helped him track him across the country.

According to The New York TimesAccording to emails obtained by the publication, the Washington State University student met Gary Jenkins, Pullman Police Chief, on April 12, 2022. Kohberger wrote to Jenkins hours after the meeting. “It was a great pleasure to meet with you today and share my thoughts and excitement regarding the research assistantship for public safety.”

According to the publication, the accused murderer was seeking a position as a research assistant in public safety for three years. This was offered by WSU’s doctorate program.

“I look forward to hearing from you. Best regards, Bryan,” Kohberger closed the email. 

Jenkins responded, “Great to meet and talk to you as well.”

Inside Edition The school had posted a job description that stated that “the purpose of these positions is to support each agency through data management and analysis, and to position them for success when they seek external funding.”

Kohberger’s fate is unknown at this time.

It is not clear if this is the same research position as that mentioned in Kohberger’s probable cause affidavitAccording to, he “wrote an essay when he applied for an internship with the Pullman Police Department in the fall of 2022.” 

According to the affidavit Kohberger “had an interest in assisting rural law enforcement agencies with how to better collect and analyze technical data in public safety operations.” 

Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves and Xana Krumodle were killed in stabbing attacks. This led to law enforcement embarking on a cross country chase from Idaho all the way to Kohberger’s hometown in Pennsylvania. After the suspect left Moscow, Idaho, it was the Pullman police who collaborated with federal authorities to track him down. 

Kohberger lived in Pullman’s on-campus apartment at the time of the murders. This was less than 10 miles away from the home that the victims were stabbed and killed.
